Jesús Roberto Núñez is the principal and cofounder of Estudio Núñez-Zapata: an architecture, urban planning, and research studio based in Monterrey, Mexico. His work explores urban ruins as opportunities for the revival of communities through the transformation of derelict twentieth century infrastructure into public spaces. In addition to urban regeneration projects for public spaces, he has designed sports venues, cultural centers, masterplans, community centers for local and state governments, and exhibitions for the FEMSA Biennale, CONARTE, and F.A.M.A contemporary art fair.

Roberto has also designed and built private residences, including Casa Ocho Vigas, which was a finalist for the Oscar Niemeyer Latin American Architecture Award. His work was exhibited at the 2021 and 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale, as well as the 21 Young Mexican Architects Exhibition at Bellas Artes in Mexico City. Since 2020 he has been a fellow for the state of Nuevo León’s most prestigious art award (Sistema Estatal de Creadores). In 2014, Roberto was awarded the FONCA Young Creators fellowship.

Roberto is cofounder, along with Pablo Landa and Katia Zapata, of the independent research project and workshop Division del Norte, which seeks to document the architecture of Northern Mexico. He is also the coeditor of Carnem magazine and has served as a professor at the University of Monterrey and Tecnológico de Monterrey.
