The Columbus Area Visitors Center presents a lecture and exhibition featuring recent works of Rowland & Chinami Ricketts. Rowland Ricketts is Provost Professor and Area Head of Fibers at the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design, Indiana University.
The exhibition consists of part of an installation previously shown at the Cranbrook Art Museum in 2021. Other works featured include a range of dyed and woven works—two by Rowland Ricketts, one by Chinami Ricketts, and one that is a collaborative group of dyed weavings created using yarn from a previous installation Zurashi/Slipped.
Rowland Ricketts utilizes natural dyes and historical processes to create contemporary textiles that span art and design. Trained in indigo farming and dyeing in Japan, Rowland received his M.F.A. from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2005. A recipient of United States Artists and Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowships, his work has been exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick Gallery, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Seattle Art Museum.
