Eskenazi students and faculty will be highlighted at the Trades District Block Party will take place on Friday, November 7, from 5–8 PM in the Trades District (along N Madison St between 10th and 11th Streets, and Maker Way between N Rogers St and N Madison St). The free community event celebrating innovation, creativity, and connection between the campus and community will feature
- Students from the Comprehensive Design program exhibiting their work from Spencer Steenblik's C381 Interactive Design Studio for gateways, pavilions, and campus connectivity interventions in the Trades District.
- A public forum in which in which faculty artists Melanie Pennington and Caleb Weintraub, who are creating original public art works for the Trades District, will discuss their artistic histories with moderator, AVP for A&H Research Ed Dallis-Comentale.
The Block Party is part of the College and Community Collaboration (CCC) initiative, a $16 million grant-funded partnership between Indiana University Bloomington, the City of Bloomington and Dimension Mill, supported by Lilly Endowment Inc. The event brings together local entrepreneurs, makers, artists, and IU partners to showcase the creative energy happening in the Trades District, and report on the progress made on achieving the grant's goals.
The event will also include live music and dance performances, remarks from Mayor Kerry Thomson, Provost Rahul Shrivastav, and Mill CEO John Fernandez, food trucks, an artist market, tech demos, and games and maker activities for all ages.More at https://engagement.iu.edu/tradesdistrict/blockparty/index.html
