Two exhibitions showcase lithographs and artists books by MFA, BFA, and BA students in the Eskenazi School's printmaking area, along with printmaking alumni, together with work by students at the University of the Arts London, the University of Brighton, and the University of West of England (Bristol).
The exchange and the exhibitions were organized collaboratively by the Eskenazi School printmaking area faculty and their British counterparts to support and showcase each institution’s students and alumni.
Shared Surfaces: Trans-Atlantic Connections Through Lithography
This international exchange brings together student and staff lithographers from IU Bloomington, the University of the Arts London, and the University of Brighton to foster a cross-Atlantic dialogue around contemporary printmaking. Featuring BFA, MFA, and BA students and staff across three institutions, the collaboration is designed to share research, artistic vision, and technical methodologies, promoting a deeper understanding of lithography and celebrating its relevance within, and for, contemporary art practice.
Through the exchange of prints, students gain exposure to diverse approaches in making, process, material, and in conceptual development and reach. The project encourages reflection on how location, culture, and academic traditions shape creative practice, while also pushing the boundaries of lithographic techniques. By engaging with peers from different institutions, students broaden their perspectives, learning new ways of seeing and making that may inform their future work.
Beyond the physical exchange of prints, this project fosters an ongoing conversation about lithography’s evolving role in contemporary printmaking. By connecting emerging artists across borders, the collaboration not only highlights the versatility of the medium but also strengthens an international network of printmakers who will carry forward these shared experiences into their individual practices and future careers.
