Since its founding, the United States has been a society that favors men over women and other genders. The clear dichotomy between the roles of men and women that existed at the foundation of our nation continues to hold relevance in our modern society, despite the progress that has been made in the fight for women’s rights. When the 19th amendment was ratified on August 18, 1920, a major milestone was made towards basic equality. However, one hundred years later, women are still fighting for equity and battling gender stereotypes. My thesis explores the history of women's representation and rights since the ratification of the 19th amendment & reflects upon the progress that is still to come. By presenting the history of women in America during the centennial of women receiving the right to vote, the viewer will be able to pause to explore how far women’s rights have come and how much further they still need to go.
