Line and space are of utmost importance in the navigation of my work and process. I utilize source materials that encompass parts of the “everyday” object in conjunction with components in which I create. The use of common objects allows for a relative undercurrent of language tied to contemporary design. Through this distillation of parts into new complex structures, I search for transformative opportunities in the language of common objects both current and forthcoming.
I choose to use analog ceramic building techniques along with digital drawing as a way of collecting information. I then use this information to navigate the relationship between implied illustrated space and the physical form. The use of drawn and formal line allow for greater venturing between the contrast of given information and acquired perception. I look through a broad spectrum of design for inspiration about reallocating the formal language of objects, from contemporary deconstructivist architecture to aesthetic modification of automotive do-it-yourselfers. It is from this sense of discovery I am able to visualize an excavation of formal language and design.
