NEW BRITAIN — The Chen Art Gallery at Central Connecticut State University will feature the exhibition Eyes in the Forest, with recent paintings by artist Barbara Neulinger.
The exhibition will run January 22 through February 20 and is open to the public. An opening reception will be held on Thursday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Neulinger will give an artist talk at about 4:30 p.m.
Neulinger, of Florence, Mass., is an American painter whose work explores how people see and experience the world around them. According to the gallery, her paintings focus on nature, light and structure and how inner thoughts connect with the physical environment. Her work invites viewers to slow down and take in scenes where organic shapes and space come together.
Neulinger earned a Master of Fine Arts in painting from the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture and Design at Indiana University in Bloomington. While there, she held an associate instructor teaching fellowship. She received her Bachelor of Science in art with a minor in art history from Skidmore College, where she was awarded the Jesse Solomon Award for Excellence in Painting. She also received a full scholarship to attend the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
The Chen Art Gallery is located in Maloney Hall, Room 202, on the CCSU campus at 1615 Stanley St. Regular gallery hours are Mondays from 1 to 4 p.m. and Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., except during university holidays and closures.
Admission to the gallery is free. Free parking is available at the Welte Garage, which is next to the art building. Elevator access is available to the second floor.
