The Bill Blass Speaker Series presents a lecture by Joan Hart, who is an internationally recognized specialist on Kashmir and Paisley shawls. Hart has published her research on the shawls in the digital archives of the Textile Society of America. She has a large collection of shawls, couture fashion, robes from around the world, and Syrian apparel. She consults and lends to museums. She has a Ph.D. in art history from the University of California, Berkeley and B.A. from Swarthmore College. She has taught at Indiana University, Purdue University, Wabash College, among others. She is currently finishing a book on the founding art historian Heinrich Wolfflin for a British press. She has lectured at the Louvre Museum in Paris, the Russian Academy of Art in Moscow, and many other venues. She currently resides in California and is on the Board of the Textile Arts Council of the San Francisco Museums of Fine Arts.
