Join us for a lecture by guest artist David Brody at The Republic Building on Tuesday, November 5 at 6:30 pm. The lecture will take place in the auditorium.
David Brody is a painter who also works with film and installation. He was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1958, and was educated at Harvard, Skowhegan, and CalArts. Recent painting exhibitionsincludea two person show with Elliott Green at Studio 10 in Brooklyn, and solo exhibitions at Pierogi and Sometimes Works of Art (James Siena’s project space). His 2014 installation 8 Ecstasiesat Pierogi, The Boiler included an 11 minute digital animation (in collaboration with composer Zig Gron). His films have been screened at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., The Reina Sofia Museum, and the IFC Center. He has made wall drawings at The Drawing Center, The Brooklyn Museum, and Hallwalls in Buffalo. He also writes about art, primarily for Artcritical, and occasionallyfor other publications, including Bomb Magazine, The Brooklyn Rail, and Cabinet. His numerous catalogue contributions include essays for Brenda Goodman, Jane Fine, Il Lee, and Michelle Segre, and an interview with Phillip Taaffe.
