Architecture is traditionally considered an art and a science with great social responsibility—to create places that are both beautiful and functional, practical and poetic. Today’s designers are tasked with an increasingly complex call to action—to create architecture that heals, restores, and regenerates in response to climate change, social injustice, declining public health, and diverse community needs.
Perhaps the most important reflection for today’s architect is not “WHAT do I want to design, but WHY do I want to design?” In this lecture and exhibition, guest speakers from global interdisciplinary design firm Perkins&Will Chicago will explore the importance of Purpose in practice and how alignment with one’s personal, organizational, and societal values is reframing traditional design through innovation and iteration.
Please join us for an evening lecture and a companion gallery exhibition featuring notable Perkins&Will projects, including Riverbeech Mass-Timber Tower Research Project, Oak Park Community Recreation Center (Oak Park, IL), and NexusPark (Columbus, IN).
