Professor Arthur Liou’s work, Kora, was recently acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) in Melbourne, Australia, the Contemporary Art Museum for the Vehbi Koç Foundation in Istanbul, Turkey, and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas U.S. The work is currently on view at the permanent collection gallery in NGV until spring 2016.
In addition to the museum acquisitions, Professor Liou recently mounted numerous exhibitions in major international venues. Since spring 2014, his work has been invited to the Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography in Japan; Media City Seoul Biennial at the Seoul Museum of Art in Korea; Sharjah Biennial 12 in Sharjah, UAE; and a solo exhibition at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum in Taiwan. His work was also represented in Art Basel-Hong Kong; Art Taipei; and will travel to Pulse Art Fair in Miami in December 2015.
Professor Liou’s recent projects have included a pilgrimage in the sacred mountains in Tibet, a journey through the tsunami-ravaged coastline of Japan, and a cinematic collaboration with a brain scientist regarding the connection between endocannabinoids and memory. He was recently invited to present his work at the Chicago Humanities Festival at the Chicago Cultural Center and at the “Global Art and Diasporic Art in Japan and Asia” symposium at Tokyo University.
