Interior Design student Charlotte Jolly wins 2016 Daltile scholarship
Dallas —Daltile, in partnership with the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Foundation, named Kristina Tribell winner of the fifth annual Daltile Interior Design Scholarship. During NeoCon East 2016 in Philadelphia, Tribell was presented with a $10,000 scholarship to continue her education in the field of interior design.
Printmaking Represents IU at National and International Conferences
The second largest printmaking association in the country, the MAPC is a highly regarded professional organization. This year’s conference in New Albany is hosting a series of juried activities and events in which IU’s printmaking students are heavily represented. Graduate students Matthew Batty, Andrew Trussler and Autumn Wright curated an exhibit titled Extended Family and an exchange portfolio titled Extended Family-Once Removed.
Meredith and Elsa McKinney Awarded Inaugural College of Arts and Sciences Old Crescent Award
Meredith and Elsa McKinney are awarded the College of Arts and Sciences inaugural Old Crescent Award of outstanding alumni contribution. Their generous support established the McKinney Visiting Artist Series, a permanently endowed program in the School of Fine Arts. Each year, the series brings 10 internationally known studio artists to the Indiana University Bloomington campus, and in doing so ensures that students have continuous access to a broad range of artistic techniques, perspectives, and ideas.
Professor Tracy Templeton Headed to Argentina for Proyecto Áce Artist Residency
Tracy Templeton, Associate Professor of Printmaking will be headed to Buenos Aires, Argentina from May 10–June 11, 2016 to complete a suite of prints at Proyecto Áce that will culminate with a solo exhibition at the acclaimed facility.
Indiana State Museum bicentennial exhibition highlights Indiana art scene over the years
Hoosiers will be introduced to a special body of artwork this year during the 200 Years of Indiana Art: A Cultural Legacy exhibition, March 19 through October 2 at the Indiana State Museum. The exhibit will be comprised of more than 100 two- and three-dimensional works of art. Works by important early Indiana artists will provide a historical perspective. Additional works include modern and contemporary pieces illustrating the development of the visual arts in Indiana, showcasing the immense talent and diversity associated with the state.
Osamu James Nakagawa’s photographic work is included in the group exhibition Genius loci 地霊： Spiritual Land at the Towada Art Center in Aomori, Japan. The exhibition was curated by Japanese photo critic Kotaro Izawa to focus prominent Japanese photographers such as Araki, Yutaka Takanashi, Risaku Suzuki, Rinko Kawauchi, Lie Shiga and others.
Betsy Stirratt’s La Maladie on Display at the Mütter Museum of Philadelphia
The Mütter Museum’s spring art exhibit brings unusual beauty to the human form in La Maladie, a solo exhibition by New Orleans born artist Betsy Stirratt. Stirratt paints anatomical images of ailing body parts in intricate detail and sets them against gold leaf, creating works reminiscent of saintly Byzantine masterpieces rather than medical illustrations. As a result, what might look at home in an antique edition of Gray’s Anatomy becomes a shimmering study of what makes us human.
