Incoming first year students

Incoming students should select Studio Art B.A. on their IU application as their intended major. You will begin your studies within our Creative Core. After two to three semesters of studio courses on the Bloomington campus, you may submit an application to our Studio Art B.F.A. program. Admission to the B.F.A. program is competitive and subject to a portfolio review and personal interview with the faculty of the area you are applying for.

Direct admission

There is no direct admission to the B.F.A. in Studio Art degree program. It is a preferred admission program, and only current, eligible undergraduate students may apply. It requires a portfolio review as an additional step before you are accepted into the major.

Current students

The B.F.A. in Studio Art degree program is designed for exceptional students seeking intensive study in one studio area. The program generally is a four-semester commitment. Students are encouraged to apply when they have a strong vision for continuing in a specific studio area.

Transfer students

If you’re transferring to IU Bloomington from another college or university and want to pursue a major in studio art, you must first apply for admission to IU Bloomington
