Artist Jess T. Dugan’s photo series “Every Breath We Drew” will open at the Grunwald Gallery of Art on Aug. 6 and run until Oct. 4. Dugan will be present for a McKinney Visiting Artist Lecture at 5 p.m. Sept. 13, in Fine Arts Building FA015, followed by a reception from 6-8 p.m.

“This series has been widely published and noted as one of the most important series of photographs depicting intimacy and identity within the trans and non-binary communities,” according to a press release for the exhibit.

Dugan’s entire body of work explores ideas of community, gender and sexuality. She received a BFA in photography from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, a Masters of Liberal Arts in Museum Studies from Harvard University in 2010 and an MFA in photography from Columbia College Chicago in 2014.

“‘Every Breath We Drew’ explores the power of identity, desire and connection through portraits of myself and others,” Dugain said. “Working within the framework of queer experience and from my actively constructed sense of masculinity, my portraits examine the intersection between private, individual identity and the search for intimate connection with others.”
