Several works probe the boundaries between biological and artificial entities. Visitors can peer through a microscope at “Xenobots,” tiny programmable organisms (biological robots) designed by scientists from Tufts University and the University of Vermont with AI and constructed from living frog cells. Also straddling science and design, Kexin Liu's “3607-Bacteria Soundscape” merges microbiology with AI-generated audio. A “Self-Portrait” by Ai-Da Robot, a humanoid with AI capabilities who has given a TED Talk and been exhibited at the Tate Modern and the Venice Biennale, interrogates not only the self-portrait genre but the very notion of self.

The international exhibition includes work that Eskenazi School Digital Art faculty members have made using machine learning.  In “Entangled Embrace: Echoes of Intimacy,” Associate Professor Margaret Dolinsky uses AI as an expressive companion that visually and sonically enriches a journey across the complex, emotional landscape of human connections. The piece incorporates a composition by IU Jacobs School of Music faculty Chi Wang. Developed through conversations with women from around the world, Lecturer Megan Young's interactive installation “carry:root”— which allows viewers to talk with a custom AI “StoryCatcher” while immersed in large-scale dynamic imagery – brings personal stories of displacement to life.
