Graduating B.F.A. and M.F.A. students complete their course of study by presenting a thesis exhibition, typically in their final semester at IU. B.F.A. and M.F.A. thesis exhibitions are held in the Grunwald Gallery. Students are responsible for working with the Grunwald Gallery to plan, install, and deinstall their exhibitions. B.F.A. thesis exhibitions
B.F.A. thesis exhibitions are held once per semester. All B.F.A. students are required to turn in a Thesis Authorization Form which outlines details of the planned thesis exhibition. This form must be approved by their area head.

M.F.A. qualifying oral examinations
Prior to executing the final thesis exhibition, M.F.A. students must complete their qualifying oral exams. The oral examination is held one semester prior to the Thesis semester. Students are responsible for scheduling their oral examination and contacting faculty to serve on the committee under the advice of their area head.
Submit the Scheduling of M.F.A. Oral Examination form to the Graduate Services Coordinator six weeks prior to the examination date. After your oral exam is completed, have your committee submit the Record of M.F.A. Oral Examination form to the Graduate Services Coordinator as well.
M.F.A. thesis exhibitions
M.F.A. thesis exhibitions are held in the Grunwald Gallery. All M.F.A. students are required to submit a detailed proposal to the Grunwald Gallery on a date designated by the Gallery. M.F.A. students are also required to give a public 10-minute gallery talk about their work at 12 p.m. on the Friday of the opening reception.
