I was born in Canada but my family comes from London and Glasgow. I was originally studying geophysics, but fell into fine arts finally. Everything feeds one’s artistic practice, even the mistakes. I was lucky coming out of university to be hired to design one of Canada’s biggest museums: The Glenbow was where I cut my teeth on working with scale, varied materials, artifacts and contemporary art.
I produced the video for Christo + Jeanne-Claude’s Surrounded Islands project for Miami in 1983, and premiered it at the Tokyo Video Festival in 1985. Recent projects include the 2015 Cerveira International Sculpture Biennial in Portugal, solo exhibitions for Nuit Blanche 2012 in Paris, the Künstlerhaus Museum in Vienna 2013, the Brighton Phoenix Contemporary Art Centre UK 2012, and a feature exhibition for the Edinburgh International Art Festival Scotland 2015. In 2013 I won the Grand Prix at The Györ International Drawing & Graphic Biennial in Hungary which resulted in a solo image + sound project at the new MODEM Museum in Hugary’s second largest city, Debrecen.
In 2008 I won the Grand Prix at the International Biennial Trois-Rivières Canada, and had one of my films premiere at The Portobello International Film Festival in London UK.
