Ester Partegàs is a visual artist and educator. She holds an MFA in Sculpture from the Universitat de Barcelona and a Diploma on Multimedia Arts from the Universität der Künste in Berlin. She was born in La Garriga, Barcelona. She currently splits her time between New York City and Marfa, TX.
Her work has been shown nationally and internationally in venues such as the Sculpture Center, LIC, NY; the Whiteny Museum of American Art at Altria, NY; Columbus Museum of Art, OH; Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona; Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; the Arnolfini, Bristol; the Moscow, Athens and Busan Biennials; among others.
Most recent and upcoming projects include “The Passerby” at Foxy Production, New York; “The Source”, a permanent public sculpture in Upper Manhattan commissioned by the City of New York, Department of Cultural Affairs Percent for Art; “Poems for Supermarkets”, a poetic intervention on supermarket receipts in Copenhagen that will be published as a book by Lodret Vandret in Denmark in February 2017, and a window project at FOUR AM in the Lower East Side of New York. She is currently preparing two solo shows for 2017: at Nogueras Blanchard, Madrid and Christopher Grimes Gallery in Santa Monica, CA.
Partegàs has held teaching positions at the Sculpture Department of Yale University; at the Sculpture + Extended Media Department of the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA; and at the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture. She is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor of Sculpture at SUNY Purchase, NY.
