Events:  Interview with artists Seth Cook and Joel Fuller, Friday, July 17th, 5:00 PM, Facebook Live

Other events TBA

The Grunwald Gallery at Indiana University is pleased to present Fallout: Art in this Time, a cumulative online exhibition featuring the work and practices of emerging and established artists working in a range of disciplines. The exhibit, organized by the Grunwald Gallery, is an ongoing project that will feature an initial group of artists, with more artists added in the coming months. At 5:00 PM on Friday, July 17th, the exhibition will open online on the Grunwald Gallery website. Please Practice Racial Distancing, a collaborative work by artists Joel Fuller and Seth Cook, will be featured on Facebook Live at 5:00 PM on July 17th. This interview and all further events associated with Fallout will be announced via the Gallery’s social media pages.

Fallout is the material created by an explosion which gradually settles back to earth as dust. In the aftermath of such an event, the effects of fallout can be felt for months, or even years. In these months after the onset of COVID-19 in the United States, numerous “fallouts” have become apparent; how we move through the world has changed. Fallout: Art in This Time asks artists to reflect on the ways their lives and artistic practices have shifted. Process images and images of makeshift studio spaces will be featured in the exhibition along with images of completed works. Artists are asked to reflect on their work in the context of a post-pandemic world. How has the pandemic changed what art means? How have the studio practices of artists changed? What do artists envision for the future?

With social distancing guidelines and stay-at-home orders in mind, the Grunwald Gallery works to create exhibitions that are responsive and relevant to the times. Online exhibitions and other exhibition formats that step outside of the traditional gallery setting are the ways that we are continuing to bring shows like Fallout to our audience.
