Megan Romans is a visiting lecturer in Fashion Design at the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture, and Design. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Apparel, Merchandising, and Design at Iowa State University and plans to complete her degree in the summer of 2025. Her doctoral research focuses on the intersections of queer identity, style, fashion, and dress. Megan received an M.S. in Textiles, Apparel Design, and Merchandising from Louisiana State University in 2018, where her research focused on social psychological aspects of dress and identity related to mature, plus-size women. In addition to research, Megan actively publishes creative scholarship and has displayed her design work at numerous juried exhibitions at the national and international level.
As an educator, she enjoys teaching content related to digital and traditional apparel patternmaking, garment construction, textile and surface design, fashion collection development, creative research processes, and social psychological aspects of identity, dress, and culture.
In addition to her research and teaching, Megan has roughly 10 years of professional sewing experience in the formal wear and bridal industry. In addition to teaching and research, she owns and operates a bridal alterations and design studio that specializes in women’s formal wear.
