City Partners with Artist Pop-up Collective One Drop to Host Art Exhibition Underground at Fourth Street Garage Storefront

The City of Bloomington is partnering with Indianapolis-based art collective One Drop to produce an exhibition titled Underground featuring over 20 local and regional emerging BIPOC artists in the Fourth Street Garage Storefront from Friday, March 17 - Saturday, May 13. The exhibition will feature work across artistic media, including collages by Honey Hodges, textiles by Beatrice Atencah, and photographs by the 2023 LensCulture Top prize recipient, Justin Carney. Hodges, Atencah, and Carney are among several local artists featured in the exhibition.
One Drop seeks to educate communities by showcasing how the arts are used to preserve history and create culture, create platforms for artists of the global majority to utilize their voice in a public forum, and uplift individuals, both past and present, through art collaboration and interaction with businesses, institutions, and the community. The City of Bloomington collaborated with the group to create an exhibition highlighting work by local artists while also bringing the work of regional BIPOC (black, Indigenous, and people of color) artists to the broader Bloomington community. The exhibition also provides local Bloomington artists the opportunity to connect with their peers in the region.
“We are happy to host this exhibition highlighting the vast artistic talent of our BIPOC community,” said Mayor John Hamilton. “We’re excited to have this opportunity to allow our artists and the culture of Bloomington to connect to a larger, important network.”
Exhibition opening activities will take place on Friday, March 17, from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday, March 18, from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. and will include food, drink, remarks by the artists, DJs, and live music performances. Details regarding the opening activities are available at: https://bton.in/j!0eS
