During the fall semester, Founding Dean and Professor of the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design Peg Faimon assumed volunteer leadership roles in two national organizations for the fine arts in higher education. In October 2023, she was elected to the International Council of Fine Arts Deans board of directors (ICFAD). Also that month, Faimon was re-elected for a third term to the executive board of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). Having served as NASAD’s treasurer during two previous terms, Faimon will function as the association’s vice-president during the current three-year period of service.
Faimon has been a member of both professional organizations since becoming a dean in 2016. As a member of ICFAD’s board, she is looking forward to contributing to the organization’s overall mission of “deans helping deans.” In her nomination statement, Faimon noted her eagerness “to be a part of the breadth and depth of conversations and planning for the organization.” Faimon has participated in ICFAD’s DEI committee and chaired its leadership development committee. “During the pandemic we put together a great series of webinars to bring arts leaders together for learning, support, and camaraderie,” Faimon said. “These sessions have proven so successful that we are continuing them.”
Additionally, Faimon has served as a mentor through ICFAD’s Leadership Development Workshop, which pairs mentor and mentee for a series of weeks for training and one-on-one meetings. As board member, Faimon will continue to serve as a mentor and as liaison to the leadership development committee.
Currently comprising around 328 institutions, NASAD establishes standards and provides accreditation for art and design education in the U.S. and several international affiliates. Faimon has served as a NASAD site visitor, to review facilities, meet faculty and staff, and observe teaching at institutions seeking accreditation. Faimon will continue to serve as site visitor in addition to her role as vice president of the NASAD board. “Accreditation plays a vital role in addressing the challenges of higher education by promoting quality, accountability, peer review, and continuous improvement," she noted.
In fall 2023, Faimon also served as the moderator for the two-day pre-meeting workshop for "Individuals New to Art and Design Higher Education Administration," which was a part of the NASAD annual meeting. Faimon facilitated the program of presentations, including her own, on “Working with the Faculty.”
