Pneuhaus is a Providence, RI-based studio that has spent a decade honing the craft of inflatable architecture. Inspired by physics, biology, and craft, Pneuhaus’ work incorporates the lessons of nature in both form and function. Building on the legacies of Buckminster Fuller and Frei Otto, Pneuhaus’ work has been exhibited and installed across the US and Europe.
The lecture by Pneuhaus cofounder Matthew Muller will briefly describe the history of pneumatic structures as the jumping-off point to share Pneuhaus’ design process. With the help of some physical models, Muller will talk through selected projects to share how the studio works to expand their craft and explore new ways of experiencing space.
Pneuhaus was awarded the Arthur Loeb Emergent Design Science Professional Award in 2016, the Community Choice Prize for Core 77 in 2015, and won the Built Environment Award by Core 77 in 2017. Pneuhaus has been featured in design publications such as Dezeen, Design Boom, and This is Colossal.
