The Monroe County History Center presents Illustrating Identity: Senior Cords in Monroe County. The exhibition showcases the uniquely Hoosier sartorial tradition of “Senior Cords,” decorated corduroy pants and skirts worn by high school seniors. The exhibition includes examples from both the History Center's collection and that of the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design’s Elizabeth Sage Historic Costume Collection.
A reception for Illustrating Identity takes place Thursday, September 5 from 5-7 pm, with a lecture at 6 pm by guest curator Kelly Richardson, Director and Curator of the Sage Collection.
Located in the Richard Rechter Gallery, Illustrating Identity explores the complete history of this artistic phenomenon, from its Purdue University origins, through its midcentury high school heyday, and on to its modern-day revival. Kelly Richardson produced this exhibition with special assistance from Emily Rosolowski, Wes Miser, and Alex Johnson—as well as research support from Jooyoung Shin, Wes Miser, and Emily Clark Zarse.
