Comp design students bring children's dream machines to life
Eskenazi comprehensive design students led by senior lecturer Jon Racek collaborated in the second annual MyMachine USA competition to realize working prototypes of children's dream inventions. “We had better ideas working together as a group than if we would have done this all by ourselves," said Jackson, a second grader in Greene County.
B.F.A. Danielle Shum explores intersecting identities in metal
Danielle Shum "never anticipated that [her] story about a curved spine could resonate with so many people." Her brooch "Scoliosis" has won awards for the metalsmithing B.F.A. from the National Society of Arts and Letters and the Society of North American Goldsmiths, and is included in the show "We Are Here" opening June 4 at the Metal Museum in Memphis.

Just in time for Mother’s Day: Eskenazi faculty and alumni show work in “Lineages of Birth,” a cross-campus and -community project exploring experiences of birth, curated by an Eskenazi alum. In disparate mediums, the artists explore aspects of birth and reproduction that expand and complicate the prevailing narrative.
Nakagawa's photographs stand witness to painful history
In 2022, Eskenazi School faculty Osamu James Nakagawa made a 15,200-mile pilgrimage around the US to photograph the sites where Japanese and Japanese-American people were incarcerated during World War 2. On view at Tokyo's Photo Gallery International May 17-July 1, the work is a reckoning with the artist's own national identity.
Mies Building awarded major steel industry award for 2023
A 1950s design built seven decades after it was created, the Eskenazi School's Mies van der Rohe Building was one of ten projects that received a 2023 Innovative Design in Engineering and Architecture with Structural Steel (IDEAS-2) Award.
