Photo grad Seth Adam Cook featured in Lenscratch
Eskenazi photo M.F.A. alum Seth Adam Cook used his mother’s camera to “navigate a stream of consciousness around the places, people, and emotions” he encountered after her death. Lenscratch, which named Cook one of its ‘Top 25 to Watch’ in 2020, featured Cook’s photographic “exploration of loss, memory and identity” titled “As Big As the Sky.”
Five M. Arch students receive IAF scholarships
M. Arch students in the Eskenazi School's Miller Architecture program took five of the nine scholarships awarded March 25 by the Indiana Architecture Foundation. The award-winners submitted portfolios showcasing their work in sustainable and community-engaged design, among other concerns.
During her six-week residency at the Eskenazi School, Dutch artist Roos van Haaften explored IU's Astronomy Photographic Plate Collection for inspiration for a new light installation and worked with students in the studio. The 2024 McKinney international artist-in-residence, van Haaften draws with reflections and shadows to create fleeting mirages.
Studio Art grads, undergrads are NSAL honorees
Five students pursuing degrees in Studio Art at the Eskenazi School took top honors in the 2024 National Society of Arts and Letters competition March 1. Specializing in five distinct disciplines, the award-winning artists exhibited work made using traditional and innovative techniques addressing race, gender, and migration, among other issues.

‘Math Meets Art’ celebrates Morton C. Bradley, Jr.’s legacy
Math and art come together in Morton Bradley’s colorful, geometric sculptures, of which IU owns more than 300. In a recent workshop, Eskenazi Associate Professor Martha MacLeish showed visitors how color works with form in Bradley’s pieces. University Collections at McCalla is currently hosting an exhibition of Bradley’s work.
Grunwald Gallery announces international call for artworks integrating AI
Through May 10, the Eskenazi School's Grunwald Gallery of Art is welcoming proposals from artists around the world for works of art that utilize artificial intelligence (AI) to explore new processes and forms of creativity. Artworks may transcend conventionally defined artistic genres and challenge preconceptions of art itself.

Eskenazi M.F.A. alum James Watkins shows ceramics at Roswell Museum
Through July 7, 2024, New Mexico’s Roswell Museum is exhibiting work from the 1990s by renowned ceramicist James Watkins, who received his M.F.A. at IU in the 1970s. Paul Whitfield Horn Professor Emeritus in the College of Architecture at Texas Tech University, Watkins describes his ceramic work as a realization of memories of growing up as an African American during the Jim Crow period.
