Six win FSF scholarships proposing social, environmental solutions
The Fashion Scholarship Fund awarded $67,500 to six Eskenazi students for case studies proposing solutions to social justice and environmental problems achievable through fashion design and the retail industry. In April, the FSF hosted the students for a weekend of networking and celebrating in New York.
Empathy, collaboration, iteration: at the heart of design thinking
"My professors’ emphasis on design thinking early on resonated with me,” said Ibrahim Al-Mohanna, graduating with a major in Interior Design (Eskenazi School) and a minor in Urban Planning (O'Neill School). "That approach taught me to think more critically about the needs and experiences of users, and to design solutions that are truly meaningful and effective."
Summertime in southern Indiana means placemaking for Eskenazi students
Rehabbing a historic tomato juice factory in Paoli for its present use as an arts and culture center is just one of the 13 projects across southern Indiana that Eskenazi School students are involved in this summer through the Rural Placemaking Studio, a partnership between the school's ServeDesign Center and the IU Center for Rural Engagement.
Eskenazi architecture student works with local builder to create affordable homes.
A student in the J. Irwin Miller Architecture Program has designed two unique houses being built on Columbus’ east side with affordability in mind. “It’s function and form working together,” Jim Blackstock said of his designs. Blackstock, currently in his second year of the M. Arch degree, teamed up with Blackburn Properties for the project.
Produced in February by IU's Retail Studies Organization, the second annual Fashion Within Sports panel delivered junior Fashion Design student Christi Kategiannis to a high-profile design opportunity. Pacers center Myles Turner debuted the Eskenazi student's look in the tunnel before the last game of the season, April 14.
Photo grad Seth Adam Cook featured in Lenscratch
Eskenazi photo M.F.A. alum Seth Adam Cook used his mother’s camera to “navigate a stream of consciousness around the places, people, and emotions” he encountered after her death. Lenscratch, which named Cook one of its ‘Top 25 to Watch’ in 2020, featured Cook’s photographic “exploration of loss, memory and identity” titled “As Big As the Sky.”
